William Childs "Bill" Reed, Sr., age 72, passed away on May 27, 2020 at his favorite spot where he enjoyed gardening and hunting. He was born on December 26, 1947 to the late James Yewell "J.Y."and Jessie Wray Reed. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Gail Reed, for 48 years.
Bill graduated from Eupora High School and Mississippi State University with a Bachelor's Degree in science, Master's Degree and Specialist in Educational Administration.
He began his career in education at Cumberland School where he taught physical education and high school science. After getting his counseling degree he worked at both Cumberland and Mathiston Schools. After serving as assistant principal in Mathiston he was hired at Eupora High School where he served as the principal for grades six through twelve and attendance center principal. He retired from the field of education in 2001. He enjoyed his volunteer work with the Catch-A-Dream Foundation which he was instrumental in organizing for Webster County. Bill was chosen as the national volunteer of the year by the Catch-A-Dream Foundation in 2019. For so many people he was a principal, advisor, leader, coach and friend. He was a devoted family man. He loved spending time with his wife, Gail, and the countless hours he spent with his granddaughters, Mattelyn Brooke and Alana.
He is survived by his wife, Gail Gibson Reed, of Eupora, Mississippi; one son, William C. "Willie" Reed (Angela), of Eupora, Mississippi; one brother, James Yewell "Buddy" Reed, Jr.; and two granddaughters, Mattelyn Brooke Reed and Alana Wray Reed. A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Yewell "J.Y" and Jessie Wray Childs Reed and his sister, Mattelyn Reed Booth.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Eupora, Mississippi. A visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday, May 30, 2020 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Eupora, Mississippi. A private family burial will follow at LaGrange Cemetery in Choctaw County, Mississippi. Wise Reed Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Catch-A-Dream Foundation 2485 Ennis Road Starkville, MS 39759. Donations can also be made on the website www.catchadream.org.
