Obituary

Vicki Marie Foster Bell

March 12, 1947, ~ December 18, 2023

Eupora, Mississippi

Vicki Bell was born Vicki Foster in Columbus, Mississippi to Kathleen and Harold Foster. Her dad was a disabled veteran; because of that, her mother was the bread winner. She was a child welfare worker; Vicki saw in her deep compassion for others which she emulated in her own life.

After spending her early childhood in Columbus, her family lived in Magee and Jackson before returning to Columbus. She attended high school there and ultimately graduated from MUW with her Bachelor's degree. After graduation, she worked in Memphis until she married Shed Bell, Jr. and moved to Eupora where she spent many happy years rearing her son, Joe Harold Bell.

She also spent these years working at Eupora High School as librarian where she was dearly loved by all the students. They delighted in getting her tickled so she would laugh and snort. Her nickname was 'Slick Vick," and she would laugh and snort even more when she was called that! Also, during these years, she received her Master's degree in library science from MSU- an accomplishment she was very proud of.

Vicki was a member of what was then, "The 20th Century Club." She enjoyed volunteering and giving to others. She was very generous and always believed "it was better to give than to receive." As long as she was able, she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Eupora and enjoyed Sunday School and singing in the choir, especially when her dear friend, Mary Lynn McCully was choir director.

Vicki was preceded in death by her parents Kathleen and Harold Foster; a beloved aunt and uncle, Edith and Kirk Egger; and by her husband, Shed Bell, Jr. She is survived by one son, Joe Harold Bell; a sister, Susan Edwards (Boyd) of Eupora, Mississippi; and a niece, Holly Edwards of Nashville, Tennessee and nephew, Scott Edwards (Kim) of Tupelo, Mississippi.

Besides these family members, there were many others who loved Vicki. A special "thank you" to Louise McMullen, Dr. Christy Vowell, and the nurses at the NMMC Long Term Care unit. She will be remembered by them and all who knew her for her gentle, kind spirit and her special gift of laughter. Let Vicki's life inspire us all to fill our lives with more love and with much more laughter.
