Obituary

Ursula Katharina Bright

February 13, 1937 ~ October 28, 2023

The earthly journey of Ursula Katharina Bright, "The Little German Woman", ended peacefully on October 28, 2023, as she went to join her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in eternal joy, at the age of 86.

Ursula was born to Karl Franz August Huther and Anna Katharina Margarete Petry Huther in Wetzler, Germany, on February 13, 1937. After spending her childhood in Germany, she met her soon to be husband, William Riley Bright, an American soldier, and veteran of the European theatre in WW2, and was married in Wetzler, Germany, on October 17, 1953.

Following her move to Choctaw County in 1961, she became a pillar of strength and perseverance in the community. Widowed by the unfortunate passing of her husband, William, in 1972, Ursula reared her children with a tenacious, protective spirit, persevering through many struggles and trials, including the tragic loss of her young son Danny. She worked long hours and hard jobs, with stints at Sly Manufacturing, Trace Way restaurant, Sandra's Kitchen, and Walthall's Quick Stop, where she served food with both love and fierceness.

She loved to crochet blankets to keep her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren warm. She was passionate about her garden, where she could make a rose sprout from a rock. Ursula made her garden full of beauty, color, and life, a reflection of herself.

Ursula was a dedicated member of Maben First Baptist Church. She wore her heart on her sleeve and let her love for Jesus show and was passionate about the building expansion of the sanctuary.

She was preceded in death by her nine siblings, including sisters, Tillie Karre, Helga Garland, Anna Korting, Emgert, and Dora Huther; brothers Carl Huther, Heinz Huther, and Gunter Huther; husband, William Riley Bright, and loving son Daniel Lewis Bright.

Ursula is survived by her son, Bill Bright (Carol) of Eupora; daughter, Kathy Johnson (Andy) of Maben; and son, Bobby Bright (Kristi) of Mathiston.

She was the "Oma" to 13 grandchildren: Field Johnson, Jesse Clare Bland, Hunter Johnson, Katie Grimes, Carson Bright, Cole Bright , Lexie Bright, Pearson Bright, Mason Bright Kaleb Bright, Garrett Bright, Baylor Bright, and Maci McDade. Her legacy includes 15 great grandchildren and countless friends, and family, all touched by her love and the warm nurturing fire of her spirit.

2 Timothy 4:7: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
