Travie McCuiston Bowen

February 11, 1943 – February 2, 2021

Eupora, Mississippi

Travie McCuiston, aged 77, passed away at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi on February 2, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Derwood and Frances McCuiston and wife of the late Billy Joe Bowen.

Travie was a beloved mother, grandmother, retired teacher, and friend. She graduated from Eupora High School and was soon married to the love of her life, Billy Joe Bowen. Centering her life around her family, she worked in the office of her husband, who was sheriff of Webster County. She began her teaching career at Kilmichael Elementary School and later transferred to Eupora Elementary School where she retired after thirty-seven years of service. Travie was always a dedicated teacher caring for her students. She often treated them to early morning snacks bringing "nabs" or some other treat to make sure that no student was hungry. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and was always commenting on Facebook and anyone with whom she talked about their many accomplishments. She was a strong, independent lady who told you how it was! Travie was an avid Ole Miss fan who would often chant, "Hotty Toddy!" any chance she got. She was a member of Walthall Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Rusty (Jan) Bowen of Eupora, Mississippi; two daughters, Terri Bowen (Ronald) Stokes of Louisville, Mississippi, and Shannon Bowen (Ben) Jackson of Madison, Mississippi; one brother, Billy Joe McCuiston of Eupora, Mississippi; and eight grandchildren, Emily Kohen of Fullerton, California, Chelsea Kohen of Shannon, Mississippi, Chase (Libby) Kohen of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Madison Smith of Pontotoc, Mississippi, Will Bowen of Saint Charles, Illinois, Maci Bowen of Eupora, Mississippi, Frances Claire Jackson of Madison, Mississippi, and Ben Jackson of Madison, Mississippi.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Derwood and Frances McCuiston; her husband, Billy Joe Bowen; and one brother, Danny McCuiston.
