Bellefontaine, Mississippi
Ruby Lee Knight Maxey, 89, of Bellefontaine, Mississippi passed away in Cottingham Hospice House, Seneca, South Carolina on March 10, 2019. She was born Valentine's Day, February 14, 1930 to William Charles and Ellen Alberta Beck Knight. She was the wife of Earl Webb Maxey of Bellefontaine, Mississippi.
Ruby Lee, known as Ma-maw to her family, was born in Sapa, Mississippi but spent most of her life in the "McCain Town" community near Bellefontaine, Mississippi. She married the love of her life, Earl Maxey, on July 12, 1947 and they had two daughters, Shelia Dianne and Brenda Kay.
Ruby was very devoted to, and loved by, her family. She loved having "spend-the-night" parties with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Some of her happiest times were spent with them playing board games, laughing, and telling bedtime stories.
She was a skilled cook and enjoyed preparing delicious meals for family and friends. She always fretted that her dressing wasn't good enough despite the fact that it was always the best.
Mrs. Ruby enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, quilting, and crocheting. She made and gifted lovely quilts and afghans to each member of her family. She also loved being a part of her community. The years she and her husband hosted the Saddle Club in their pasture was a great a joy to many, including Mrs. Ruby herself. She was a faithful member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Bellefontaine, Mississippi.
Mrs. Ruby Maxey is survived by her daughter, Dianne Maxey Kirksey (husband, Jim) of Bellefontaine, Mississippi; two grandchildren, Kimberly Murrell (husband, Dan) of Austin, Texas and Shelley Bentz, (husband, Ray) of West Union, South Carolina; six great-grandchildren, Jareth Murrell, Aiden Murrell, Hailey Bentz, Chase Bentz, Coltin Bentz, and Zackary Bentz; one great-great-granddauaghter, Raylon Bentz. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William Charles and Ellen Alberta Beck Knight; her husband, Earl Webb Maxey; her infant daughter, Brenda Kay Maxey, and her brother, James Aubrey "Jack" Knight.
Funeral services for Ruby Lee Knight Maxey will be Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church in Bellefontaine, Mississippi.
