Robert "Bob" Gary, 85, retired teacher from Eupora, Mississippi passed away October 30, 2018 at Golden Triangle Baptist Hospital in Columbus, Mississippi. Mr. Gary was born on May 5, 1933 to Clyde and Ida Berneice "Neice" Gary of the Springhill Community.
Mr. Gary was a land owner in Webster County, Mississippi and a former agricultural teacher. He received his BS, MS, and Specialist Degree from Mississippi State University. After beginning his teaching career at Cumberland High School, he moved to Hinds College and then taught for many years at Eupora High School and Webster County Vocational Center. Throughout his tenure at Eupora High School, he was the sponsor of the Future Farmers of America. He served in the United States Army and was a member of the Eupora First Baptist Church, Eupora Lions Club, and the Masons.
Other than teaching, Mr. Gary enjoyed working on his farm and watching his pine trees and cotton grow. His hobby was making clocks, canes, and picture frames along with other wooden objects. He always had a Boston Terrier as a pet and passed down his love for Boston Terriers to his daughter, Robin.
He is survived by his daughter, Robin (Slater) Gary Lowry of Columbus; his former wife, Bonnie Farley Gary; a brother, Harold (Jetty) Gary of Brookhaven; a sister, Ruth Hill of West Point; three grandchildren, Tyler Brock of Cleveland, MS, Dallas Brock of Starkville, MS and Victoria (Dustin) Pitts of Columbus, MS; two great grandchildren, Paisley Pitts and Payden Pitts; four nieces, Debbie (Bill) Hill Billington, Donna (Scott) Hill Ross, Carol Gary, and Cathy Gary Franck; and multiple great nieces and great nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Chester Clyde and Neice Tabb Gary, and a brother, Glynn Gary.
Funeral services for Mr. Gary will be Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Pilgrim's Rest Church. Visitation will be at Wise Reed Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Officiating at the funeral will be Bro. Travis Gray and a former student, Steve Ellis.
Pallbearers will be Tim Tindall, Phil Hendricks, Frank Farley, Stan Rogers, Pat Cummings, and Steve Ellis…all former students of Mr. Gary. Burial will follow in Embry Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please donate to Pilgrim's Rest Church. Wise-Reed Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
