Myrtis Emelda Fillingame Lunceford

Myrtis Emelda Fillingame Lunceford died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at home. She was 84 years old.

Born November 21, 1934 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to Wilburn Estes "Rassie" and Bessie Jane Fillingame. She had one sister, LaDelle Fillingame Williams who predeceased her. She studied literature at Perkinston Jr. College. Myrtis lived in Long Beach until 1978 when she moved to Eupora, Mississippi.

Myrtis worked as a medical and legal secretary and owned her own real estate business. She was an amazing seamstress and got a lot of joy by making dresses for her daughters for their special occasions. Myrtis loved animals and often found peace and tranquility in the barn brushing her horses and milking her cows. Myrtis was interested in genealogy before it was cool. She volunteered at her genealogy library through her church. Myrtis enjoyed baking, cooking, canning and working in her garden. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and taught classes and volunteered with the church for many years.

Myrtis is survived by her husband Blaine Lunceford; her daughters, Janet Woodock (Richard) of Eupora, Mississippi, Judi David (Michael) of Long Beach, Mississippi, Kathy Johnson (Joe) of Mantee, Mississippi and Karen Nettles of Naples, Florida; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
