Obituary

Lucille Johnson Salley, known as Pudge to all who knew and loved her, passed away on February 27, 2026, at the age of 85. She was born on January 12, 1941, to Fox and Lonnie Johnson.

Pudge was the matriarch of the Salley family and relished her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She worked for a time as an assistant teacher and substitute teacher in Eupora and was especially proud of her time working with Mississippi State Extension Services. Pudge enjoyed flowers, gardening, cooking, and singing. A faithful member of Eupora Church of Christ, she is remembered as a strong woman who never hesitated to speak her mind. Above all, Pudge’s greatest joy was her family, along with her dear friends —especially her best friend, Norvelle Weeks.

Pudge Salley is survived by two sons, Ken Salley (Mitzi) of McCarley, Mississippi, and Peter Salley (Mandy) of Manila, Arkansas; daughter-in-law, Ruthie Duncan (Phillip) of Eupora; eight grandchildren, Chip Salley (Bethany) of Eupora, Brandi (Brad) Vaughn of Mathiston, Morgan Kittredge (Brett) of Ball Ground, Georgia, Carlie Crowley of Oxford, DP Salley (Bailie) of Manila, Arkansas, and Claude Salley, Lucas Salley, and Mart Salley, all of Manila, Arkansas; and eleven great grandchildren, Will Salley, Drew Salley, Ryan Salley, Natalie Salley, John Thomas Kittredge, James Grady Kittredge, Colt Harbins Kittredge, Owen Brooks Kittredge, Harper Grace Kittredge, Ellie Rose Barrows, and Hunter Vaughn.

Pudge was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Mart “Red” Salley, Sr.; one son, William Mart Salley, Jr. (Ruthie) of Eupora; one daughter Michelle Salley Crowley of Nettleton; one brother, Claude Steven Johnson of Mathiston; and one sister, Helen Johnson Bowen (JD) of Mathiston.
