Obituary

Kenny Lynn Mixon

December 9, 1970 – September 25, 2021

Eupora, Mississippi

After many years of preparation, pondering, and procrastination, Kimmy Lynn Mixon arrived at his eternal destination on September 25, 2021. His "never give up" mentality complimented his God-given ability to amuse any audience with an arsenal of humorous tales and testimonies told in unique Kimmy Mixon-style. Despite health challenges spanning over two decades, Kimmy kept his spirits high, making the most of every experience. For instance, during his first heart attack he refused sedation until he could take in the aerial view of Eupora from the helicopter. Similarly, he purposefully finished his Shrimp Duckie at Copeland's in New Orleans before admitting he was having the second heart attack less than two months later. This led to his Fred Sanford routine.

He enjoyed entertaining the healthcare staff in each setting, too, regardless of the often-questionable appropriateness of his material. Still, somehow Kimmy could work Christ into the conversations, consistently sharing his faith. He miraculously went from last breaths during a third heart attack to walking out of the ICU the next morning in time to get home for Christmas.

With every major heath event, Kimmy learned a lesson that he would share with others. He had been dreading turning 30 and was moping about it when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma in 2000. He looked forward to every birthday after that.

Heart attack number one resulted in a heightened awareness of his purpose, to share Christ and His desire for us to love one another and to forgive. He felt a sense of urgency and truly began a new spiritual journey. He was willing to help, too, whether serving as a chauffeur for various church needs, helping his "Paw-In-Law," or supporting his favorite charities.

As more cardiac events took place, Kimmy felt an obligation to encourage people to have a relationship with Jesus, because our days are not guaranteed, and we are on God's timetable. A nurse once compared him to a cockroach because he continued to survive. As he would say, God had more for him to do. He liked to share about the many times his life had been spared and how he had no fear of dying. He would describe how God worked in his life and how much he loved everybody along with the joy he had from unconditional love.

The last leg of the marathon included anaplastic thyroid cancer, frequently described as a "death sentence." Even when he lost his voice and later his independence, he never gave up. He lived out his favorite Bible verse and waited upon the Lord for renewed strength (Isaiah 40:31). He is now soaring.

Kimmy was blessed with his wife of 52 years, Robin (26 years each, he would explain); three delightful children: William Mixon, Madeline Houston (Joe), Clayton "Bobby" Mixon, and two four-legged companions, Pistol and Cookie. Kimmy is survived by his proud, loving parents Kenny and Jeanette Mixon and his big brother, Ken.
