Jonnie Miles Hood, age 77, passed away on March 10, 2020 at her home in the Springhill Community surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Glen "Hob" Hood, Sr. and the daughter of the late Fred and Marine Watson Miles.
She was born in Webster County, October 3, 1942 to Fred and Marine Watson Miles. She grew up in the Embry community, attended Springhill School until it closed, and graduated from Eupora High School in 1960. She married her high school sweetheart, Hob Hood, on February 27, 1960. They lived in various places finally settling back in Webster County to raise their four children. Jonnie was a retired secretary, bookkeeper, and librarian. Jonnie loved people, and especially serving the churches of Webster County. She also loved playing the piano for various churches and the nursing home residents in Eupora every week for over thirty-five years. Jonnie faithfully cared for her ailing mother for nine years until she passed in 1988. However, she was foremost a wife, mother, and Mimi. She was known for "telling it like it is" and giving you her opinion, but Jonnie loved big and helped people wherever she could. She had a giving heart and serving spirit. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be missed by many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Marine Miles; her sister, Virginia Miles Ingram; and one grandson, Thomas Anthony Britt, II.
She is survived by her husband, Glen "Hob" Hood, Sr; two daughters, Teresa (Tony) Britt of Springhill and Tracy (Joey) Palmer of Eupora; two sons, Glen (Beth) Hood, Jr. of Mantee and Quess (Anita) Hood of Ripley; five grandchildren, Taylor Britt, Hanna Hood, Zada Hood, Luke Palmer, and Jasper Hood; one brother, Joe (Janie) Miles; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020 at Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Embry Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chuck Putman, Chuck Miles, Joey Miles, Tim Rowe, Kody Knight, and Scott Tyler. Wise-Reed Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Autism Center at Mississippi State University.
