John David Lane

John David Lane , age 78, resident of Walthall, MS, formerly of Knoxville, TN went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 1st, 2026.

Born to James and Sarah Lane and raised by Royster and LaRue Moss. John joined the United States Army  and was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.

John leaves behind his testimony of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. He told his family that death is not something to fear for the Christian. He said “Death for the Christian is like walking into the next room. There’s nothing to fear for the Christian.” During his final time on Earth even though the body was weak, he quoted from the Bible, John 11, Jesus said, “He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he lives’ and that “ He that believeth in me shall never die”. He knew that although the body dies his spirit and soul would never die.

John is preceded in death by his parents, several siblings, and daughter Shelly Lane.

John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sandy Lane; one daughter Jennifer (Eric) Roberts of Eupora; one son Brad (Susan) Lane of Athens TN and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and extended family.

The family would like to thank VSO Ken Wicha for all is help in the last year.

Graveside services will be held at the Veterans Cemetery in Kilmichael, MS on September 4, 2026, at 10:30 am with military honors.

Wise Reed Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pastor Drew Ray of Knoxville, TN will be officiating.
