Jewell Jackson Huffman, Jr., 87, of Mathiston, Mississippi passed away at North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora on September 23, 2018. He was born on March 23, 1931 to Jewell J. and Viola Taylor Huffman in Merigold, MS.

Mr. Huffman was talented from an early age in electronics. He attended school in Merigold, Drew, and Eupora. His sons fondly remember his telling of playing football in Drew and Eupora from 1946 – 1948. He joined the United States Air Force in the fall of 1948 where he served in the Strategic Air Command. He had various roles in the B-29, B-36, B-58, and SR71 programs and received numerous decorations. While in the military he continued his education at Southern Methodist University, Arkansas State University, and Texas Christian University where he received his bachelor's degree.

He was a devoted father who traveled to multiple stateside and overseas locations with the military but always made time in his high-tech aviation service for his family. After retiring from the United States Air Force, he returned to Eupora, Mississippi where he worked for twenty-one years in electronics. He again retired in 1993 to a life of family, golf, and recreation in Choctaw County, Mississippi.

He held multiple championships in amateur bowling. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed golf, water skiing, fishing, and camping. He and his wife, Anita, enjoyed RV trips, bluegrass music, and playing golf on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trails. He and his wife were avid golfers at the Eupora Country Club where he was a past Senior Champion.

He is survived by four sons, Bolen Lee (Marilyn) Huffman of Madison, AL, James Atlie Huffman of Mathiston, MS, Dr. Jewell J. (Janet) Huffman, III of Eupora, MS, and Daniel Wayne Huffman of Collinsville, MS; two sisters, Sammie (Carroll) Huffman McCarty of Eupora, MS and Laura (Jerry) Huffman Springer of Eupora, MS; a brother, Benjamin "Frankie" Franklin Huffman of Eupora, MS; two sisters-in-law, LaRose Dean of Nashville, TN, Sybil (Richard) Giles of Littleton, CO; a brother-in-law, Sidney Dean of Littleton, CO; eleven grandchildren, Brandon Matthew Huffman of Madison, AL, Nathan Ellis (Megan) Huffman of Madison, AL, Lyndon Dean (Angela) Huffman of Madison, AL, Brandi Nichole (Chad) Davis of Madison, MS, Amber DeAnn (Jamey) Carter of Bentonia, MS, Jessica Lauren Huffman of Raleigh, MS, Charles Whitney (Lacey) Huffman of Eupora, MS, Ivey Elizabeth Huffman of Eupora, MS; Erin Danielle (Ryan) Hill of Meridian, MS, Joel Taylor Huffman of Philadelphia, MS, Ellison Michelle Huffman of Philadelphia, MS; and fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Anita Huffman; brother Marvin Letha Huffman; brother James C. Huffman and sister, Lottie Barnett.
