Obituary

James Vernon Rushing

August 23, 1962-September 16, 2026

James Vernon Rushing of Weir, Mississippi, passed away on September 16, 2026, at the age of 64. He was born August 23, 1962, to Leck and Jeanette Curry Rushing in Kilmichael, Mississippi.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, James served his country for 20 years and retired with the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6). During his military career, he served with the 2nd Battalion, 305th regiment, 3rd Brigade, 87th Division. Following his retirement from the Army, James continued his working life as a truck driver. He and his wife, Carol Threet Rushing, shared 28 years of marriage. Outside of work, James enjoyed many activities that allowed him to spend time doing what he loved. He had a talent for mechanic work and enjoyed working with his hands. He also found great enjoyment in fishing, playing golf, and boating. These hobbies provided opportunities for relaxation, fellowship, and time spent with family and friends. He was a member of Crape Creek Baptist Church.

James will be remembered for the life he shared with those around him, the service he gave to his country, and the memories he created with his family and friends. His love, strength, and presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. As we remember James, may we find comfort in the words of Matthew 5:4: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” May God’s peace and comfort surround the Rushing family and all those who mourn his passing. May the memories of James be a blessing and a reminder of a life well-lived.

James is survived by his wife, Carol; one sister, Linda Dean of Ackerman; two brothers, Barry (Audry) Rushing and Charles Rushing, both of Eupora; three daughters, Kayla (Josh) Bingham of Eupora, Kirstain Buffington of Illinois, and Bridget (Jeremy) York of Eupora; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Bingham, Caden Bingham, Blakely Rusk, Ryland Rusk, Airyanna White, Logan White, Austin York, and Bebe York; and a host of nieces and nephews.

James is preceded in death by his parents Leck and Jeanette Curry Rushing; two brothers Timmy Rushing and William Rushing.
