James Paul Lanthrip, Sr., age 78, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2020 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, Mississippi. He was born on December 7, 1941 to J.D. and Pauline Ivy Lanthrip.
Paul was born and raised in Choctaw County, Mississippi. He was the Fire Chief at Reform Fire Department for 16 years, which he passed down to his son, James Paul Lanthrip, Jr. He was a welder for B&W in West Point for 40 years before he retired. He was also a cattle farmer and raised mostly dexter and angus cattle. He especially enjoyed traveling the West Coast with his daughter, Sue Hellen Wycoff. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by one son, James Paul Lanthrip, Jr., of Mathiston, Mississippi; one daughter, Sue Hellen (Geoffrey) Wycoff, of Tuscon, Arizona; one daughter-in-law, Kristy Lanthrip, of Mathiston, Mississippi; one brother, Charles (Gail) Lanthrip, of Mathiston, Mississippi; one grandson, Jonathan (Allie) Lanthrip; and two grandchildren, James Lanthrip and Camden Lanthrip.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ann Stone Lanthrip; his parents, J.D. and Pauline Ivy Lanthrip; and one son, Todd Lanthrip.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Reform Fire Department 22175 MS Hwy 15 Mathiston, MS 39752. Wise Reed Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
