James Dees, age 89, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family in Eupora, Mississippi on June 17, 2020. He was the husband of the late Florence Ruth McCullough Dees.
After graduating from Enid High School, Mr. Dees served in the Army. He met his wife, Ruth, through her brother who was in the Army with James. He then worked with Sunbeam Bread Company for twenty-two years, and then worked with Wonder Bread for twenty-one years retiring in 1992. He and Ruth enjoyed sixty years of married life rearing four wonderful children. He enjoyed quail hunting and crappie fishing with his wife. His world was made up of loving his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Midway Church of Christ.
He is survived by four children, William Randy (Thelma) Dees of Stewart, Mississippi, Kevin (Linda) Dees of New Hope, Mississippi, Debbie (Danny) Mann of Eupora, Mississippi, and Julie (Sam) Smith of Fort Payne, Alabama; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Mann, Jamie Mann, Kara Anthony, Garrett Dees, Caleb Smith, and Nicholas Smith; and nine great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Florence Ruth McCullough Dees; his parents, James Arthur and Bonnie Belle Bradley Dees; a brother, Arthur Benford Dees; four sisters, Idell Sturgis, Irene Slaughter, Jessie Eastridge, and Eleanor Mae Jackson and one grandson, Ben Dees.
Services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2020 at Wise Reed Chapel in Eupora. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Brother Nathan Wright will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Webster Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Mann, Caleb Smith, Garrett Dees, Jamie Dees, Nicholas Smith, Micah Dees, and Garrett Anthony. Wise Reed Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
