Obituary

Jacqueline Olivia Gary Meek

April 21, 1964-October 16, 2026

Jacqueline Gary Meek passed away peacefully at her home on October 16, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 21, 1964, she was the daughter of Jack E. “Jackie” Gary and Shirley Gibson Gary.

A beloved and respected member of the Webster County community, Jacqueline touched countless lives through her talents, dedication, and the many relationships she cultivated throughout her life.

Jacqueline was a woman of remarkable gifts, whose talents and accomplishments spanned both music and law. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi, followed by a master’s degree in music. Later in life, she returned to Ole Miss to pursue a law degree, embarking on a second professional calling. She went on to practice law with her husband, Buchanan Meek, Jr.

As a music teacher, Jacqueline shared her talent and love of music with generations of students through private piano lessons and her work in the Webster County School District. For many years, she also served as pianist and organist at Eupora Methodist Church, enriching the worship services with her beautiful music. A gifted vocalist as well as an accomplished instrumentalist, she also directed the church choir for a time. Among her enduring legacies is the love and appreciation of music she instilled in countless students, a gift that will continue to resonate for generations to come.

Jacqueline served her community in many capacities, both through her legal career and her volunteer work. Most recently, she served as attorney for the Webster County Board of Supervisors. For several years, she also served as a youth court judge and referee, demonstrating her dedication to the well-being of children and families in her community. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a dedicated volunteer at community events, and an enthusiastic advocate for the city of Eupora, which she championed at every opportunity.

In her leisure time, Jacqueline enjoyed needlework, genealogy, and traveling, particularly to places associated with the great European composers including Beethoven and Mozart. She took special delight in celebrating holidays, especially Christmas. Known for shopping for Christmas gifts all year long, she found joy in selecting thoughtful presents and beautifully wrapping even the smallest treasures. Above all, Jacqueline cherished time spent with her family and the memories they created together.

Jacqueline is survived by her husband, Buchanan Meek, Jr; one sister, Monica Gary Cummings (Pat) of Eupora; one brother, Gibb Gary (Tracy) of Tampa, Florida; two sons, Phillip Bowen “Beau” Smith, Jr. (Aubry) of Eupora and Jack Gibson Smith of Eupora; two stepsons, Walter Buchanan Meek III (Lydia) of Tomnolen and Arthur Emmette Meek (Beth) of Starkville; one daughter, Sealy Shaw Smith Glasner (Jeremy) of Eupora; two stepdaughters, Arey Patsy Meek Herard (Toll) of Eupora and Emily Catherine Meek Reed (Rodney) of Tomnolen; one granddaughter, Holland Kay Glasner; and a host of step-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Jacqueline was preceded in death by her parents, Jackie and Shirley Gary; one step-daughter Shann Elaine Meek McClellan; and one step-granddaughter, Sara Christine Meek.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Wise Reed Funeral Home from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M., with the funeral service following at 2:00 P.M. at Eupora Methodist Church.
