Irby Neal Mitchell, 82, passed away on December 21, 2019 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi. He was born on January 20, 1937 to Everett and Ida Brasefield Mitchell.
Mr. Mitchell lived in Stewart, Mississippi where he retired from American Optical and General Motors. He graduated from Eupora High School and moved to Shreveport, Louisiana where he worked for American Optical for twenty-five years. During those twenty-five years, he also worked for American Optical in Paris, Texas, and Harlingen, Texas before he was transferred back to Shreveport, Louisiana. He later began working for General Motors and worked with them for approximately thirteen years. He and his wife, Ruth, were married for fifty-three years. After moving back to Stewart, Mississippi, he enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, loved gardening, and enjoyed his morning cup of coffee at Nail's Quick Stop in Stewart. They attended Reed's Chapel Church in Stewart, Mississippi.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Smith Mitchell; two sons, Jason (Kellie) Mitchell of Kansas City, Missouri and Philip (Christie) Mitchell of Stewart, Mississippi; a sister, Linda (Ricky) Mills of Carrollton, Texas; and two grandchildren, Jordyn Mitchell and Sophia Mitchell.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Ida Brasefield Mitchell; one grandson, Kye Mitchell; and one sister, Charlsie McDonald
