Howard Lyndon Cooper, aged 72, passed away on January 19, 2021 at his home in the Mt. Moriah community near Eupora, Mississippi.
Mr. Cooper was born on May 20, 1948 in Tomnolen, Mississippi. He graduated from Mathiston High School in 1966. He served in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971 during the Vietnam War. He retired from Babcock and Wilcox after 30 years. He ran his own business, Cooper's Small Motors, in Maben, Mississippi for 22 years. He was a Master Mason in the Mathiston-Double Springs Masonic Lodge 184 in Mathiston, Mississippi; a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in Corinth, Mississippi; a member of the West Point Commandery No. 20 Knights Templar in West Point, Mississippi; and a member of the Hamasa Shrine Club in Starkville, Mississippi. He loved to sing Gospel Music and traveled all over the southern states to gospel singings.
He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Barbara Maddox Cooper; one daughter, Shonda Cooper (Kenny) Burton; one son, Christopher (LeeAnn) Cooper; one granddaughter, Kasee Burton (Derick) Crowley; three grandsons, Dakota (Alee) Burton, Will Cooper, and Andy Cooper; three great grandchildren, Axe Burton, Kennedi Crowley, and Mary Ashton Burton; two sisters, Cornelia Cummings and Georgia McCulloch; and one brother, Quinten Cooper.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Marie Cooper.
A Masonic service will be held at North Mississippi Veterans Cemetery in Kilmichael, Mississippi for immediate family only at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital in his name. (Shriners Hospital for Children, 3100 Samford Avenue, Shreveport, Louisiana 71103) Wise Reed Funeral Home assisted in the arrangements.
