Helen Herard Lewis

Helen Herard Lewis, age 76, went to be with her Lord on September 26, 2023. She was born in Eupora, Mississippi, the daughter of Cherry Bell and Edwin Vernon Ray. She was married to Dannie Lewis. Helen spent her childhood in Eupora and graduated from Eupora High School with many honors. She continued her education at the University of Mississippi where she received a bachelor's degree in education.

After Helen was married to her high school sweetheart, Claude Herard, she began her career in teaching at Kilmichael School then moved to Eupora where she taught at the Elementary School and at the Webster County Vocational School. During her teaching she had three children that she adored, Toll, Monica, and Cherrie. Hellen lost her husband but worked diligently to fulfill her role as a wonderful mother and teacher.

The Lord took care of Helen by bringing a very special person into her life, Dannie Lewis. They had been married for 24 years and worked together to care for their family. Dannie helped Helen in especially caring for her handicapped daughter, Monica. Helen loved her grandchildren dearly. She cooked many meals, attended all sporting events, and created special occasions that helped enhance extra time with her grandchildren, Claude, Edwin, Patsy, Estra, Lillian, and Landry.

Among the many memories of Helen was her talent for playing the piano by ear, planting and working in her yard, beautifully smiling for everyone she meets, and actively supporting her Sunday School Class, Ruth's Sunday School Class, at First Baptist Church of Eupora. Her family said it best, "She had a servant's heart."

She is survived by her husband, Dannie Lewis of Eupora, Mississippi; one son, Toll Herard (Arey) of Eupora, Mississippi; two daughters, Cherrie Winter (Chad) of Eupora, Mississippi and Pam Rogers of Oxford, Mississippi; and six grandchildren, Claude Herard, Edwin Herard, Patsy Herard, Estra Herard, Lillian Winter, and Landry Winter.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin Vernon and Cherry Bell Woods Ray; the father of her children, Claude Daniel Herard; one daughter, Monica Herard; and two brothers, Loyd Ray and Joe Ray.

Funeral services for Helen Herard Lewis will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Wise Reed Funeral Home in Eupora, Mississippi. A visitation will be held prior to the service on Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Officiating the services will be Brother Travis Gray. Burial will follow at Reed's Chapel Cemetery in Webster County following the services. Pallbearers are Chip Powell, Beau Powell, Kevin Boatman, Patton Embry, Joel Ray, and Buck Meek. Wise Reed Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
