Mathiston, Mississippi

Gregory "Greg" Raney, 45, passed away December 30, 2018 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi surrounded by family and friends. He was born on October 9, 1972 to James Raney and Brenda Tenhet Biulew. He was married to Cindy Raney.

He moved to Rapid City, South Dakota at a very young age and graduated from Central High School there. A couple of years after graduation he married Cindy Stevens. After living in South Dakota for a few years, they moved back to Mathiston, Mississippi. Mr. Raney worked with Oswalt Building Supply and independently on plumbing jobs as he was needed. His friends said that he was always willing to help others. He was genuine in all that he did for everyone. He enjoyed the outdoors where he loved hunting with his friends. He loved telling stories about himself which were always funny. He had such a great personality. His family always came first in all that he did. He was a good Dad and good Papa.

Mr. Raney is survived by his wife, Cindy Stevens Raney; one son, Leland Stevens; three daughters, Samantha Lee Joyce Raney, Shayleen Rose Raney, Jaylee Emma Stevens; two brothers, James Raney of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Franklin (Janell) Raney of Rapid City, South Dakota; and two sisters, Moronda Crews Stokes of Greenville, Mississippi and Liann Crews Gaughf of Biloxi, Mississippi.

Mr. Raney is preceded in death by his father, James Raney.

Visitation will be at Maben First Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at Maben First Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2019. Officiating will be Brother Tommy Temple. Honorary pallbearers are Marcus Oswalt, Junior Templeton, Gerald Templeton, Gary Dewberry, Robby Gilliland, and Anthony Stevens. Pallbearers are Lee Gilliland, Jeff McMinn, Jeff Harrison, Cane Adams, Jimmy Smith, and Daniel Gilliland. Burial will be at Spring Valley Cemetery in Mathiston, Mississippi. Wise Reed Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
