Dorothy Jean Estes Betts, 82, passed away January 2, 2019 at her home in Mathiston, Mississippi surrounded by her family. She was born May 19, 1936 to Bryan and Icie Canterbury Estes.
Mrs. Betts, known as "Dot" by her family and friends, graduated from Cumberland High School. She married and reared her four children while working at Southwire in Starkville, Mississippi. She will always be remembered for never meeting a stranger. She was a loving and caring person in all ways. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her. She was a devoted member of Mathiston First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Betts is survived by her son, Ronnie (Lindsey) Betts of Mathiston, Mississippi; two daughters, Mary Ann Stevens Mogel of Columbus, Mississippi and Dr. Jean Betts Odom of Orlando, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Nell Clarke of Starkville, Mississippi and Labonna Estes of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; one brother-in-law, Waymon (Marie) Betts of Eupora, Mississippi; nine grandchildren, Ronnie Betts, Jr., Stevie Betts, Sr., Grayson Betts, Dr. Wade Stevens, Jr., Amye Stevens, Teri Maurer, John Randle, Jr., Adam Randle, and Kenneth Randle; ten great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Betts is preceded in death by her parents, Bryan and Icie Canterbury Estes; her husband, James Roy Betts; a daughter, Sheila Betts; three sisters, Sammie Gibson, Annie Clark, and Ruby Cochran; and two brothers, J. B. Estes, Jr. and James Earl Estes.
Visitation will be at Mathiston First Baptist Church on Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at Mathiston First Baptist Church on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be Brother Waymon Betts and Dr. Wade Stevens. Honorary pallbearers are Trey Stevens, Hunter Stevens, Grayson Betts, Ross Cochran, Conner Shurden, Pearson Bright, and Jake Harpole. Pallbearers are John Randle, Jr., Adam Randle, Kenneth Randle, Steven Betts, Will Harpole, Hunter Baddley. Burial will be at Maben Memorial Gardens in Webster County, Mississippi. Wise Reed Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
