Barry Wallace Mims, age 69, passed away on July 16, 2025. He was born on January 21, 1956, to James and Helen Mims and was the beloved husband of Patsy Mims for 47 years.
Barry was a graduate of O'Bannon High School and Wood Junior College in Mathiston, Mississippi, where he served as Student Body President. At Wood, he met Patsy Scarborough, whom he married in 1977. Barry was a carpenter by trade and a gifted craftsman. His woodworking skills are much admired by friends and family, and he built many homes in Webster County. He also loved nature, especially gardening and fishing. Barry will be remembered as an old-fashioned soul who humorously rejected modern-day gadgets and lifestyles.
Barry is survived by his wife, Patsy Mims, and one daughter, Paula Martin (Eddie) of Belden, Mississippi; three sisters, Patsy Wallace (the late Jack Wallace); Nancy Goodwin (the late Bill Goodwin); and Jackie Bailey (Mark); one grandchild, Justin Marcell; four great-grandchildren; a niece and six nephews; and a host of friends.
Barry is preceded in death by his parents, James Curtis Mims and Helen Louise Gibson Mims; and his brother, Randy Mims of Greenville, Mississippi.
Funeral visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, with the funeral following at 2 P.M. in the Wise Reed Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating the service will be Allen Pepper. Pallbearers will be Austin Bailey, Bryson Bailey, Mark Bailey, John Ballard, Brad Parkerson, and Cannon Parkerson. Honorary pallbearers are Joshua Anderson, Cruz Bailey, Ashley Goodwin, Pat Goodwin, Caleb Kelly, and Ken Smith.
Wise Reed Funeral Home will be overseeing all arrangements.
