Obituary for William Marcus "Nig" Hendrix

William Marcus “Nig” Hendrix
August 6, 1934—July 3, 2022
Mathiston, MS

William Marcus “Nig” Hendrix, age 87, left his earthly life on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born to the late John Golden “JG” and Kate Eva White Hendrix in Marks, MS. He married Mary Anne Eubanks Hendrix on January 1, 1966.

He worked a variety of jobs over the years, but most people remember him as the mechanic who could fix anything. He loved working on cars and being in his shop. One of his prized possessions was a 1961 Chevrolet Corvette, but he was challenged most by his work on a Chevrolet Chevette. He was told it would have to be done by a professional mechanic. His response was “watch me!” He purchased a turning lathe from Jim Curry of Eupora. With the lathe, he built an instrument to hold the valves down while being repaired. He put a Ford tractor sleeve in the motor and in a couple of days he had the car up and running. The Chevette continued to run even after the day it was parked. When he wasn’t in his shop, he loved watching western shows and movies. His favorites were Rifleman and Gunsmoke. You could also find him flipping through Tradewinds Classifieds looking for any type of deal as he was an avid collector of anything and everything.
However, his greatest love was the love he had for his grandchildren. He was one proud “Paw” as his grandchildren affectionately called him. He enjoyed getting pictures of grandchildren on his phone and was amazed at how fast they were growing.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 57 years, Mary Anne Eubanks Hendrix of Mathiston, MS; son William “Mark” Marcus Hendrix II (Lauren Roberts) of Ridgeland, MS; and grandchildren Lilly-Kate Padgett of Oxford, MS, Emery Claire Hendrix, Riley Grace Hendrix and Walker Colt Hendrix of Ridgeland, MS.
He was preceded in death by his parents John Golden “JG” and Kate Eva White Hendrix; five brothers: Tom Hendrix, James Hendrix, Gene Hendrix, Jerry Hendrix and Bobby Hendrix; and two sisters: Sarah Ann Hendrix and Sandra Bernice Hendrix Denton.
