Travis Watson, Jr.

Travis Watson, Jr., aged 88, passed away on January 24, 2021 at Eupora North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born to the late Ruth and Travis Watson, Sr. at his home in Center, Mississippi. He was married to Mira Butcher Watson for 66 years.

Mr. Watson graduated from Eupora High School where he excelled as a pianist. He attended Delta State University for one year and then enlisted in the United States Air Force. He met the love of his life, Almira Butcher, while working in Washington, D. C. He completed his education at Benjamin Franklin University earning a master’s degree in accounting. He was employed by the United States Information Agency, Government Accountabilities Office, and the Federal Aviation Administration. After working for a while in Washington, D. C. he was transferred to Atlanta, Georgia where he was in charge of funding for airports in the southeast USA. Upon retirement he moved back to his hometown of Eupora, Mississippi where he had been instrumental in securing a local airport for the town of Eupora. The airport was named Travis Watson, Jr. Airfield.

His family stated that Travis lived a very full life and was a very generous man. He loved his family and his Lord. Jesus Christ came first in his life and he often shared his faith with whomever he met.
He is survived by his wife, Mira Butcher Watson; his son, Gregg (Pam) Watson of White, Georgia; a daughter, Sandra (Bill) Taylor of Eupora, Mississippi; three granddaughters, Janet Taylor (Zach) Bass of Andalusia, Alabama, Beverly Taylor (James Wynne) of Bellefontaine, Mississippi and Allyson Taylor (Justin) Ballard of Niceville, Florida; five great grandchildren Kailey Wynne, Braylee Wynne, Brycen Wynne, Chesten Bass, and Lynn Bass.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Travis Watson, Sr. and a granddaughter, Valerie Taylor, and a brother, Haven Watson.

Services for Mr. Travis Watson, Jr. were held on Monday, January 25, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Wise Reed Funeral Home. Burial followed at Eupora City Cemetery. John Herring and Lydia Cain provided the music and Brother Travis Gray presented the message. Honorary pallbearers were Glenn Earnest, Doyle Cummings, Stan Miller, and Joe Duncan. Pallbearers were James Wynne, Billy Taylor, Will Gary, and Gregg Watson. Wise Reed Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
