Obituary for Sandra Kay Cooper

Sandra Kay Reed Cooper
January 9, 1943- September 29, 2022
Mathiston, Mississippi

Sandra Kay Reed Cooper, 79, passed away in hospice care at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS on September 29, 2022. Kay was born to the late John H. Reed and Lydia Bigham Reed on January 9, 1943.
Kay was a lifelong resident of Mathiston, MS. She graduated from Mathiston High School in 1961. She married Raymond Cooper of Mathiston in 1960, and they remained married until his death in 2013. She served as the City Clerk for Mathiston for 25 years, and in her retirement, she enjoyed reading, gardening, and cooking for her family and friends. She was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother without equal. Nothing was more important to her than her family and pets. She saved quite a few little four-legged souls and loved them all until their last days. Kind and generous, her daughters’ friends commented on more than one occasion that they wished they had a mom just like her. She was a long-time member of Mathiston First Baptist Church. Her laughter, wit, and wisdom are already missed by those who knew her.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Duke (Mike) of West Point, MS and Amy Roberson (Rob) of Cumberland, MS; one son Tony Cooper (Dana) of Mathiston, MS; two sisters, Glenda Ballard and Virginia Rowlen (Bobby Ray) of Mathiston; four grandchildren, Jonathan Duke (Jenny) of West Point, MS, Beth Thompson (John) of Cumberland, MS, Emily Hill (John) of Mathiston, MS and Joseph Miller (Chelsea) of Mathiston, MS; and five great-grandchildren, Ryder and Cody Thompson, Frances and Stella Hill, and Charley Duke. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who all thought she was awfully special as well as little Princess Buttercup who kept her company for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John H. and Lydia Reed Bigham; her husband, Raymond Cooper; and one sister, Bobbie Carmichael.
Funeral arrangements for Sandra Kay Cooper are Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 2:00 at Wise Reed Funeral Home in Eupora, Mississippi. Visitation will be prior to the funeral from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Spring Valley Cemetery. Wise Reed Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
