After a four-year battle with stage IV lung cancer, Richard Lee “Ricky” Childress, Sr, passed at the age of 63, in his home in Mobile, AL on January 9,2023. Just like how he dealt with all his life experiences in life, he managed his illness with strength and bravery. Despite the pain, Ricky fought until the very end. He enjoyed his final days on earth surrounded by his children and grandchildren who he loved and adored more than anything else in this world.
His strong work ethic and dedication pushed him to become a professional painter and sheetrock finisher with 40+ years of experience and allowed him to leave behind a trustworthy business.
Richard Lee Childress, Sr is preceded in death by his father, John A. Childress; his mother, Ella Christine Flanagan; two brothers, Stevie Childress, and Michael Childress, and one sister, Lisa Childress.
Richard Childress is survived by his wife, Audrey Childress, his six children: Richard Lee Childress, Jr, Crystal Denise Childress, Brandon Patrick Childress, Nicholas Scott Childress, Tuesdee Loren Childress, and April Luke, all Mobile AL, and his five grandchildren: Landon Brice Childress, Bryson Ryver Childress, Jesse Cole Childress, Laken Lavon Childress, and Melhani Grace Childress.
Services for Mr. Childress will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at 2 PM with visitation from 1:00 till 2:00 PM at Wise Reed Funeral Home in Eupora. Burial will Be at William Springs Cemetery in Choctaw County.
