Jerry Wayne Atkins, age 67, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022 at his home in Mathiston, Mississippi surrounded by his family. He was married to Jo Ann Atkins and was the son of the late Jerry Milton and Rena Vaughn Atkins.
Jerry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He had a special place in his heart for his great-grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed turkey hunting and deer hunting. He loved to travel and loved the Great Smokie Mountains. Being a big Mississippi State University fan, he attended as many football, baseball, and basketball games as possible. He worked at Babcock and Wilcox in West Point for thirty-eight years.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Atkins; one son, Robert Atkins and his wife, Paula of Columbus, Mississippi; one granddaughter, Shannon Otts and her husband, Storm; two great-grandchildren, Sadie and Chloe; one brother, Barry Atkins; and three sisters.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jerry Milton and Rena Vaughn Atkins.
Funeral Services for Jerry Wayne Atkins will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Wise Reed Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Visitation will be Saturday, August 6, 2022 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Wise Reed Funeral Home. Officiating the services will be Brother Danny Buckner and Brother J. R. Eaton. Pallbearers are Cody Atkins, Bradley Atkins, Brandon Atkins, Jeff Crowley, Chris Willis, and Barry Atkins. Burial will follow at Spring Valley Cemetery in Mathiston, Mississippi. Wise Reed Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
