Obituary for George Robert Faulk

George Robert Faulk
May 1, 1935 – February 22, 2023

George Robert Faulk made his journey from this life to eternity on Wednesday evening, February 22, at his home in the Embry Community of Webster County, Mississippi.

George Faulk was born on May 1, 1935, in the town of Ariton, Alabama. He was the 4th child of Aubry and Ladye Harrison Faulk. Growing up at the end of the Great Depression’s impact was difficult for this southeastern Alabama boy. George’s life skills would be developing rapidly. He worked on a farm, ran a hamburger stand, was night clerk in a hotel, had a daily paper route, worked in construction, and did anything he could to help a family of six. He learned the values of faith, family, friendships, and hard work.

George excelled in sports earning All-State honors in basketball and baseball with even the offer of turning pro in baseball. He chose an education and accepted a basketball scholarship in 1954 to attend Wood Jr. College in Mathiston, Mississippi. It is here that he met and later married his wife of 67 years, Iva Claudette Shaw.

His early skills began to pay dividends, and George entered the teaching field. He taught mathematics and coached all sports available in the Springhill, Ellard, and Brooksville Schools.

As his family grew, George returned to his wife’s hometown of Eupora where he took a job at the new Futorian Manufacturing Company as an engineer.

The Faulks now with three 3 sons settled in on the Shaw farm of Embry an George climbed through the ranks at the plant. He became personnel manager, night shift supervisor, plant supervisor, plant manager, and eventually after 34 years, Vice-President of the Wood-Working department supervising over 2000 employees.

He was a member of the Pilgram’s Rest Baptist Church of Emrby Community. George and Claudette with their four sons participated faithfully with George becoming music leader, Sunday School teacher, church treasurer, and decon for over 55 years. Faith was always top priority, and it carried over in all he did throughout his life. He loved people and constantly looked for ways to minister to all in need.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, cattleman, and timber farmer, too. He loved the woods and fields of Webster County.

George Faulk is survived by his 4 sons: Robert Shaw (Julia) Faulk of Ackerman, Joseph Evans (Jody) Faulk of Grenada, Aubry Patrick Faulk of Jackson, and George Anthony (Kim) Faulk of Eupora, nine grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
