Clifford Carroll Hemphill

Carroll Hemphill, aged 90, surrounded by his family at his home in the Springhill Community passed away to his heavenly home on July 20, 2021. He was the beloved husband of Neva Gary Hemphill and son of the late John James and Ruby Ruth “J” Hemphill.

Carroll Hemphill was a God-fearing Christian man who loved his family, friends, and community. He graduated valedictorian from Springhill School. He attended Mississippi State University and was ready to student teach when he was called into the United States Army. He married Neva Gary Hemphill prior to going into the Army. He was a renowned landowner, cotton farmer, and cattleman. He practiced what he always told his family that they should do—"Use good judgement”. He prospered in his personal and professional life. He and Neva were blessed with a son, Gary, and daughter, Lisa. He was selected as farmer of the year in Webster County. His greatest blessings were his granddaughter, Kristin, and great-grandchildren, Ava Joyce, Dani Grace, and Logan Gary Hitt. He was a faithful member of Eupora First United Methodist Church.

Carroll is survived by his wife, Neva Joyce Gary Hemphill; his son, Clifton Gary Hemphill, both of the Springhill Community; his daughter, Elisa “Lisa” Carol Hemphill of Robinsonville, Mississippi; his sister, Lydia Sue McRaney of Houston, Texas; his granddaughter, Kristin (Daniel) Sparks Hitt of the Springhill Community; his three great grandchildren, Ava Joyce McCain, Dani Grace Hitt, and Logan Gary Hitt; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John James and Ruby Ruth “J” McKinney Hemphill and his sister, Jamie Ruth Middleton.

Services for Carroll Hemphill will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021 at Wise Reed Chapel. Visitation will be prior to the funeral service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery. Officiating the services are Reverend Jimmy Vance and Reverend Nathan Phillips. Pallbearers are Aubrey Lee Jackson, Jimmy Middleton, Keith James, Daniel Hitt, Kent Waits, Chuck Putnam, and John McRaney. Wise Reed Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
