Charles Hester “Charlie” Saunders

Eupora, Mississippi

Charles “Charlie” Hester Saunders, aged 80, passed away on January 28, 2021 at his son’s home in Louisville, Mississippi. He was born to the late Mildred Loraine Hester Saunders Gary and Wilburn Russell Saunders, Jr. on October 18, 1940.

Charlie graduated from Eupora High School and Delta State University. He worked for the Mississippi State Unemployment Services. Since a young age, he enjoyed any type of radio or ham radio operations. While living in Indianola he worked at the local radio station as a disc jockey for twelve years. He made many friends through his ham radio contacts. He also enjoyed target shooting with various firearms. In his final years he liked trapping coons in his back yard and releasing them away from his home. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eupora.

He is survived by his son, Brian Russell (Jennifer) Saunders of Louisville, Mississippi; one granddaughter, Olivia Brylee Saunders; one step-granddaughter, Raven Lewis, and one step-grandson, Gavin Lewis.

He is preceded in death by his father, Wilburn Russell Saunders, Jr.; his mother, Mildred Loraine Hester Saunders Gary; his stepfather since the age of four, William Floyd Gary, Sr.; and a half-brother, William Floyd “Bill” Gary, Jr.

Services for Mr. Charles “Charlie” Hester Saunders will be held on Monday, January 28, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Eupora First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Eupora City Cemetery. Reverend Phillips will officiate the services with music provided Jacqueline Meek. The family requests that all attending wear a mask and practice social distancing. Wise Reed Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
