Obituary for Charles Clay Davis

Charles Clay Davis
September 6, 1936 – December 14, 2021
Stewart, Mississippi

Charles Clay Davis, aged 85, passed away on December 14, 2021 at his home in Stewart, Mississippi surrounded by his wife and family.
Charles was born in Tallahatchie County on September 6, 1936 to William Elmer and Della Belue Davis. He moved to his family farm in Stewart, Mississippi when he was nine years old. He worked as a factory worker at Wells Lamont Glove Factory for forty-five years and worked his family farm attending to his cattle and vegetable garden. He met his wife, Helen Medders Davis, at Wells Lamont and they were married on June 27, 1958. Together they raised two children. After his grandchildren and great-children came into his life, they became the center of his life. He enjoyed telling them stories about his love of deer hunting, squirrel hunting, fishing, and his childhood memories. He always wanted to visit with his grandchildren daily if at all possible. At the age of eighty-three, he surprised his family at a dinner together to tell them that he was being baptized in the pond behind his granddaughter’s house on the following Sunday. He grew up attending Stewart Church of God and later in his life attended church services with his family at Tomnolen Baptist Church.
Charles is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Helen Medders Davis of Stewart, Mississippi; his son, Larry (Susan) Davis of Winona; his daughter, Debbie (Bobbie) Knight of Stewart; three brothers, William Davis of Jackson, Bobby (Joyce) Davis of Eupora, and Jimmy Davis of Jackson; six grandchildren, Scott (Mary Ann) Dean of Stewart, Kristi Dean of Stewart, Shane (Angela) Knight of Starkville, Alison Miller of Carrolton, Hannah (Matt) Branch of Winona, Mississippi, Becky (Brian) Griffith of Eupora; and ten great grandchildren, Kaitlin Jones, Alena Jones, Mesa Miller, Maddie Jones, Ethan Knight, Micah Dean, Celie Dean, Colby Dean, Levi Bell, Emory Dean, Brian Sisk, Amber Sisk, and Tyler Mitchell.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, William Elmer and Della Belue Davis.
