Obituary for Abbie Rico (Ray)

Abbie Ray Rico
December 25, 1933 – August 25, 2022
Eupora, Mississippi

Abbie Ray Rico, 88, of Eupora, Mississippi went home to be with the Lord on August 25, 2022. She was born on December 25, 1933 to the late Luther Barrett Ray and Nannie Peeples. She married Herbert Rico in 1948; and they had four children, Ricky, James, Randy, and Lee.
Abbie worked at Wells Lamont Glove Factory for fifty-three years, the longest of any employee there. They even celebrated an “Abbie Rico Day” in her honor. After retiring she helped run the family restaurant known as Pearlie’s. She never met a stranger and enjoyed serving others, as well as working alongside her family. Abbie was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She loved her church family and was very involved. She rarely missed a Sunday or Wednesday night prayer meeting. It brought her great joy to see all of her family there with her at church worshipping the Lord. Abbie was the matriarch of her family and instilled in them her hardworking traits and strong Christian values. She was selfless and always made sure everyone else was taken care of, not matter what it took. Abbie spent many years being a caregiver to her son, Lee. She went above and beyond to make sure he received the care he needed. Her dedication to him did not go unnoticed. She was awarded “Best Caregiver in Webster County.”
The loves of her life, not putting her boys aside were her beloved grandchildren. She was known to everybody as “Granny”. You could find her at the ball fields supporting her girls playing softball nearly every chance she had. She arrived with snacks for everyone and was known for handing out five-dollar bills to her grandchildren when they hit a homerun! She was a very well-known cook especially noted for her famous fried chicken! One of her greatest joys was when Logan Rico, the first grandson, was born into the family. He was always with Abbie wherever she went.
Abbie will always be remembered as a dedicated wife, mother, and Granny to all who knew her. She spent her life loving others and spreading happiness to those she encountered.
She is survived by her children: Ricky Rico (Liz), James Rico (Gwenn), and Randy Rico; grandchildren: Brandi Johnson (Field), Kaley Harris (John), Kinsey Chesser (Zack), Traci Holloway (Greg), Alee Burton (Dakota), Logan Rico, J. J. Johnson (Wes), Leigh Moomey (Butch), Cody Knight (Trinity); greatgrandchildren: Briceton Johnson, RiLeigh Kate Johnson Cam Harris, Linlee Chesser, Anna Tylon Chesser, Breeland Chesser, Cruz Holloway, Mattie Grace Holloway, Axe Burton, Mary Ashton Burton, Walker Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Jaden Johnson, Sydney Moomey, and Hallee Moomey, Valerie Knight, and Adelyn Knight.
Abbie was preceded in death by her parents: Luther and Nanny Ray Rico; spouse, Herbert Rico; siblings: Octay Ray, Willie Louie Ray, Milton Ray, Vernon Ray, and John Wister Ray; children, Lee Rico, and daughter-in-law, Eva Rico, and granddaughter, Megan Riley.
